The Utrecht master in Neuroscience & Cognition is an international research master. The two-year program aims at delivering a new generation of multidisciplinary neuroscientists, with a broad knowledge over the full width of the neurosciences and equipped to face the challenges of modern neuroscience research.
The field of Neuroscience and Cognition comprises a vast multidisciplinary research area which overall aims to understand normal and pathological brain function. It is exactly this multidisciplinary nature that makes the field so interesting and challenging. You will need to know how to plan experiments. How to collect, interpret and analyze data. This will give you an idea of how the brain really works. For all this, you need to know how to combine information from different disciplines. Already a simple thing as seeing something provides a clear example of how complex neuroscience really is. When you see something familiar many different things occur in the brain. The cognitive aspects, since you recognize what you see. The plasticity of neurons, since you will remember what you see. The signal transduction, what you see has to be “translated” into chemical and electrical signals. You will show a certain behavior, because you act on what you see.
The international master in Neuroscience & Cognition at the UU will give you insight in the fundamental principles of the field. You will be trained to practice neuroscience research in a multidisciplinary team. The program is organized in two tracks. One track focuses on Experimental and Clinical Neuroscience; the other track focuses on Cognitive Neuroscience.
